Once upon a time,
In a land not far away,
A giddy group of school girls,
Did sometimes used to say,
Do not go in the store room,
If you do, do not blame me,
For there is a lost spirit
In the lost property.
Her name was double-barrel,
With M and J began,
And all the night in corridors,
The spirit ran and ran.
Then when the school was open,
And children filled the halls,
You'd sometimes catch her shadow,
Upon the classroom walls.
One day a classmate told me,
I never will forget,
That Mary Jane's cold face,
Was against the window set.
She told me to beware the face,
And never to repeat,
The name that belonged to it,
In case of haunted dreams...

This poem is based on an actaual ghost story that circled my primary school back in the day, when I was around 8 years old. I remember being very scared at the time and my Mum calming me down- her explanation was this:
It's not real, Heidi, don't worry. You may as well be scared of repeating the words 'frying-pan' three times, as of repeating 'Mary Jane'.
